Kofta Royale in Spiced Tomato Cream Sauce

A luxurious dish of tender beef koftas simmered in a velvety, spice-kissed tomato cream—perfect for celebrations or cozy nights.


🥩 Ingredients

For the Koftas:

  • 500g TORO minced beef

  • 1 small onion, finely grated

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced

  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

For the Creamy Tomato Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tsp ginger paste

  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander

  • 1/2 tsp cumin

  • 1/4 tsp garam masala

  • 1 cup tomato puree

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or coconut cream)

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh cilantro for garnish


👨🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Koftas

  • In a large bowl, combine all kofta ingredients.

  • Mix gently until just combined—do not overmix.

  • Form into golf ball-sized meatballs.

  • Sear in a skillet over medium heat with a splash of oil until browned on all sides (they’ll finish cooking in the sauce).

2. Prepare the Sauce

  • In a clean pan, heat ghee and sauté garlic, ginger, and spices for 1 minute.

  • Add tomato puree and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • Stir in cream and season with salt. Simmer for 5 more minutes.

3. Combine

  • Add the browned koftas to the sauce.

  • Cover and simmer on low for 15 minutes or until koftas are cooked through and juicy.

4. Serve

  • Garnish with fresh cilantro and a drizzle of cream or yogurt.

  • Pair with saffron rice, naan, or warm couscous.
